IE returns to the Days of Opportunities fair in Riga

Written on April 1, 2012 by Kim Goddard in News

On the 30th March 2012, for the second consecutive year, IE attended the Days of Opportunities Fair at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Latvia. The fair was attended by ambitious Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonian Economics Undergraduate students, some of the very best from the Baltic region.

This was in fact, IE´s second trip to Riga this March, following Eduardo Fernández-Cantelli´s Master Class titled “Nike and Adidas: communication strategies for major sports events” at SSE on the 22nd March. It was a pleasure to attend the fair and meet such able and talented students. Unsurprisingly many were still uncertain about the career path that they should take, but it was clear that there was strong interest in management, entrepreneurship, finance and law. Who knows what lies ahead for the students at SSE!

I would like to thank both SSE students Jekaterina Fjodorva and Paulius Lingys, for making me feel so welcome in Riga and at the fair. Their support was hugely appreciated.

IE in Vienna!

Schönbrunn Palace

Schönbrunn Palace

Last week, on March 19th, IE visited a cultural, economic, and political centre of Austria, Vienna.

Julie Mathieu represented our school at the fourth annual LL.M Night fair hosted by the University of Vienna – Faculty of Law. She was excited and pleasantly surprised by the ‘very involved and interested candidates’.

Despite of the very busy schedule, Julie has a chance to sightsee around Vienna. If we tell you that the most famous tourist attractions include the imperial palaces of the Hofburg and Schönbrunn and the Riesenrad in the Prater, you’ll not be surprised. The picture on the left shows a panoramic view of world famous Schönbrunn Palace.

As you can read above, IE is travelling a lot around the world. If you want to be the next one to meet us, please check our IE events website.

Professor Rafael Pampillón

Professor Rafael Pampillón

IE has been busy in Portugal and this three part update begins with a conference at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Lisbon with Professor Rafael Pampillón.

On the 30th Jan. Rafael Pampillon presented “Outlook for global economy in 2012, with a special focus on the European Economy” at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Lisbon. Professor Pampillon presented that the current adverse economic situation and the significant geostrategic changes ocurring in emerging markets are changing the patterns of the economic and financial context and penalizing Iberian economies. These emerging markets are destinated to play an important role in the European economy. Through the tourism sector, imports and by buying sovereign debt, countries like China, Vietnam, India or Brazil have the opportunity to help restore confidence in the European markets but also to be proclaimed as the great victors of this crisis.

In collaboration with Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, IE, and one of our top professors Eduardo Fernández-Cantelli, leader in the field of Sports Management at IE Business School will be holding a Master Class titled “Nike and Adidas: communication strategies for major sports events” on Thursday, March 22nd.

The Master Class: This Master Class will focus on how communication strategies used by Nike and Adidas in major sports events have similarities and differences even when both companies are targeting the same segments. Through the analysis of major soccer events, we will analyze the way in which two major sport brands communicate their messages and project their intended position in the sport market. We will also review what is behind advertising as a crucial communication tool. This presentation will be lead by Eduardo Fernández-Cantelli, whose lectures follow the dynamic and innovative learning environment which we promote in all of our programs.

The Professor: The three years he spent working as marketing manager for the Basketball Section at Real Madrid, Europe’s most successful football club, had a profound effect on Eduardo Fernández-Cantelli’s thinking as a marketing professor and teacher of the Sports Marketing Elective at IE. Prof Fernández-Cantelli believes that his work on sports marketing has broader implications for the corporate world. “I bring insights into sports marketing, sponsorships and promotions,” he says. “But these areas are certainly applicable to other areas of business.”
If you are interested in attending, please register at http://events.ie.edu within the Europe tab.
